The Fourth of July is our Nation's birthday. It was our Declaration of Independence from Britain and the birth of the United States of America.
I have so many thoughts about what this means to us today. None of these thoughts are really well-formed or deep. I do know that we are given freedom in so many ways, but with that comes the responsibility to take care of our country. It means caring for those we love and even those we don't love or don't even know, but to love them through mutual respect.
I feel like this has been the longest school year EVER and it's over.
Graduations in Katy will be happening in the next two weekends and I am so proud of these students and their families. I'm so happy that Katy ISD has found a way to provide the class of 2020 in a safe environment with social distancing in the Texas heat, but the sunsets should be stunning!!
Luke is my mischievous child. He is the quintessential boss baby. We tell him, no, and he does it anyway. At some point, we will enforce no, maybe. But he knows when he's supposed to NOT do something and does it anyway and then gives us this grin. HE KNOWS! He's 2 and he KNOWS, having kids are crazy, and watching them learn is even crazier.
Read MoreI LOVE rainy days and often don't enjoy the sun. I often think I would love living in the Pacific Northwest. The rain seems to calm me and I am learning that I have more and more ADHD tendencies and need those moments of calm to recharge and go back to my normal lifestyle. Plus I have 3 boys, they have a different speed of their own anyways.
Read MoreLife is crazy these days. The life of the unknown future has us all in a teeter totter of anxiety. My 366-day projects has helped me get through by focusing on moments that matter and seeing details of life that I may have missed in my normal life of rushing from one event and activity to the next.
Here are some of the ones I've captured since March.
Quarantine hasn't really been all that bad. We have seen more of our neighbors. Chose a friend or two each to have outdoor activities. And have included my aunt and cousin in our family group. Working and guiding in online learning while a toddler is at home has been the biggest challenge.
Read More2020 for our seniors hasn't ended the way we had all envisioned. We have had to make a lot of adjustments and a lot of sacrifices.
Read MoreWow! It has been a quarantine MONDAY here. And it's only 2.30. I think by 10 am I was already done and Reza and Ethan didn't even wake up until 10.30!
Let me preface this, Mondays have always been my absolute favorite day. It's more like my Friday.
Even though I work all day Mondays. It's MY work. Catching up, working on photos, marketing, reading and responding to emails, blogging. And all on my sofa or dining room table WITHOUT kids or a husband hovering nearby or needing my help.
Read MoreI only took my boys out for bluebonnet photos this year. No clients or families this year.
I never know quite how I feel about bluebonnets until I photograph my first bluebonnet session. They are a love-hate for photographers. We struggle with how to price them, how to schedule them and then we pray it doesn't rain.
Many of you know that my background is in photojournalism. I used to cover natural disasters, presidential elections, high school athletics, community events, local fundraisers, car wrecks and everything in between. I LOVED it! My heart and soul and art is in telling visual stories.
Read MoreSo this semester I hired an intern from Houston Community College. Her name is Michelle and she has been wonderful. I really think that teaching photographers will be something I explore going forward.
Read MoreY'all I am TIRED.
Global pandemics and quarantine life with 3 active boys is HARD.
I thought that I was a full-time mom before, but who am I kidding. They all left for 8-10 hours each day. And I WORKED. Like my job worked. I mean sure I volunteered, probably too much. I took time out to have lunches with them. I made their lunches and drove them around to activities. Cheered at the one soccer game of the season we made, the 2 track meets, went to Blue and Gold and helped with the cake.
Read MoreOne of the greatest joys in my work is growing with families. I may not have watched Noah grow up, but his parents are some of my favorite people. They have been tremendous supports in parenting, scouts and life lessons. And their kids are a great reflection of that.

Read MoreRecently I had the opportunity to help out some Katy ISD FFA kids who didn't get to show at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. I've been a sponsor of FFA for over 5 years but this was the first time I've been actively involved with the program.
Read MoreTaking 3 boys to Target at dinner time doesn't scare me, I face it boldly as an adventure and badge of honor, but when one is a two-year-old....well let's say it's totally different ball game. His brothers were so embarrassed but were good sports as I wanted to take photos of the experience.
Read MoreSo I started this thing. We will see how long it goes. For 366 days I will share a photo a day. I'm going to try to make them all with the big camera and not the iPhone camera, but time will tell.
And of course, because I was a photojournalist by training, there will be many blogs about photos that I took for the project because choosing one is SO hard for me.
Read MoreAs we close 2019, I reflect back on the year in images and a decade in memories. So much has happened in 10 years. An end to my family, and starting a new family, the birth of a new beautiful boy to raise, the growth of a business and a rebranding and regrowth of a new business. I have lost friends and family while nurturing new friends who have become family. So much heartache that I wouldn't trade for anything because of the growth, grace, and wisdom that I have gained.
